Gardens

Discover the warm, friendly community of Beth Sholom Gardens.

Outside the entrance to the Gardens, a colorful whirligig spins in the wind, welcoming visitors. The lawn ornament is a fitting beacon to the friendly community inside.

Light, bright and open describes the interior of this community, one of two assisted living facilities on the Beth Sholom campus. Surrounded by attractive gardens and outdoor living spaces, the community offers ample opportunities to savor a sunny afternoon. Residents can take in an outdoor concert on the patio, or enjoy lemonade and cookies on the rooftop terrace.

gardens_4899A library, a post office and a beauty salon are all conveniently located in the Gardens, and there are large gathering rooms where residents can take part in music and arts and crafts. A transportation service provides free rides to doctors’ appointments, shopping and other excursions.

Families can choose from a variety of floor plans in the 60-unit community, including studios and large, one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes. A dedicated memory unit provides a safe environment and meaningful programming for those with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive impairments. All residents receive one-on-one care, with access to four levels of assisted living as well as on-site rehabilitative services.

We invite you and your loved ones to visit Beth Sholom Gardens. You’ll see why so many are proud to call it home.

Life Enrichment
At the Gardens, we approach wellbeing holistically. Each week, we offer a full spectrum of activities designed to support the emotional, mental and physical needs of our residents. Regular activities include arts and crafts, musical performances, sing-alongs, yoga and other exercise classes, manicures, games, movies, cookouts, parties, and outings as well as Shabbat dinners and spiritual services for a variety of denominations. Our community is also supported by a chaplain, recreational therapists and a clinical social worker.

The opinions of our residents are greatly valued and regularly solicited. Our Resident’s Council plays an active role in programming and provides valuable feedback to administration and staff.

A Tradition of Care
Beth Sholom opened in 1945 in the Fan District as the first Jewish home for the elderly in the state. Guided by faith-based values such as kindness, respect and patience, our facility was soon associated with compassionate, high quality nursing care. Beth Sholom moved to a larger campus in the West End following a period of rapid growth.

While much has changed over the years, our founding principles have remained the same. Our nurses and other staff are highly regarded in central Virginia for not only their skills but their devotion to residents as well. A low nurse-to-resident ratio is one of the hallmarks of our care.

Determining Level of Care
The trained staff of our assisted living facilities, the Gardens and Parkside, will evaluate each resident’s strengths and needs upon admission. Following the assessment, our staff will develop and implement a plan to address the resident’s needs. Residents will be reevaluated annually and following hospitalization or illness; upon request of the staff, physician or family; or at any other time when there has been a significant change in condition.

At the resident’s or family’s request, certain services that would affect a resident’s level of care may be provided by a spouse or family member, or a hired health care worker who has been trained and certified to provide the services. The provider must be consistently available to the resident—at the times when those services are needed. We reserve the right to grant or withhold final approval of any agency or outside staff.
