LSVT Big and Loud programs help retrain the brain through movement (Big) and speech (Loud). These 16-week treatments are available to those will all levels of Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological conditions. Our clinic is among the few in the area to offer these two popular programs, which are designed to minimize symptoms and help individuals maintain higher functioning longer.

SPEAK OUT! and LOUD Crowd!
The Beth Sholom’s Outpatient and Inpatient Speech Pathology Departments specialize in treating people whose speech has been affected by Parkinson’s Disease. Participants rapidly see progress in their voice and speech through the use of SPEAK OUT!® , a highly effective speech therapy program, developed by Parkinson Voice Project. SPEAK OUT!® typically consists of twelve individual speech therapy sessions conducted by a trained speech-language pathologist. Together, the patient and the speech-language pathologist work their way through a series of speech, voice, and cognitive exercises. The primary goals of SPEAK OUT!® are to strengthen the muscles used for speaking and swallowing.

Upon completion of SPEAK OUT!®, each participant enters the maintenance phase of the two-part therapy program called the LOUD Crowd which consist of other SPEAK OUT! ® graduates who work together in a group setting to maintain their strong voices. Since Parkinson’s is a progressive, degenerative condition, maintaining the strength of one’s voice can be a challenge. The LOUD Crowd® provides ongoing vocal practice, accountability, support, and encouragement. By participating in LOUD Crowd®, patients have been shown to maintain their SPEAK OUT!® results for more than five years and counting.

FEES service uses a fiber optic endoscope to evaluate dysphagia, or difficulty with swallowing. Different feeding techniques, patient feeding positions and therapeutic techniques are reviewed by a speech and language pathologist in our clinic. Many individuals find this outpatient alternative much less stressful than going to a radiology suite for testing.

Aquatic Therapy, a healing alternative to land therapy that combines physical therapy and warm water exercise. Patients often experience a freedom of movement in the water that is otherwise unattainable. The low-stress exercise environment has proven ideal for patients with arthritis.

Exercise and Wellness
In addition to our therapeutic programs, the clinic also offers personal training and group wellness programs designed to help older adults remain active and healthy. For more information, see Smart Moves.
